And In the beginning…

DIGGING DEEP

While the bible is an interesting book it can sometimes be very hard to comprehend. At times, you have to bring the stories to life with your imagination to understand the full impact of what’s going on.

When we look at the beginning of the book of Genesis we see that God was present before the creation of the world (Gen 1:1-2). We see that God spoke all things into existence; the stars , the moon, the animals and the plants (Gen 1: 3-25) . All things were spoken  into existence except MAN.

Man was the one thing that God formed with his very hands. Man was the one thing that God gave the breath of life. The very essence of God was put into  man (Gen 2:7). So it’s weird how in Genesis, the bible jumps from creation to the Fall. If God took so much time to show man how special he was, why did humanity fall after one conversation with the devil?

God and man had a great relationship. God knew man and man knew God. After the first sin,  The bible says that they heard God walking in the garden and ran. Then,   God asked them “Where are you?” (Gen 3:8-9) This signifies familiarity, We know that familiarity comes with time. I can recognize who’s at the door by the way they knock or who’s coming down the stairs by the way they walk. Adam and Eve knew what God sounded like so they were able to recognize him when he entered the garden. They heard his footsteps and automatically recognized it was him. They knew exactly how he walked and the recognition was automatic.

Now, God was so used to meeting with them at a certain time and place that when he came he was surprised to not see them there. We could even go as far as to say that when God entered the garden Adam and Eve usually ran to meet him. They stopped whatever they were doing to give their full attention to God. But this time was different. This time he didn’t hear their footsteps or see them approaching.

The bible says that Adam and Eve were afraid (Gen 3:10) … that is the first mention of that term so far. Adam and Eve were ashamed because they knew  what God expected of them and had done the complete opposite.

Do not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil

God

The instructions were clear.. yet they were ignored .

After some enticing from the snake Eve ate and gave to Adam.

confusion Y’all are like WHY EVE???!!

Leave Eve alone, we fall into the exact same sin the bible is clearly against … sideye

Think about it, it wasn’t a one day affair. Satan didn’t just say  Eve eat this. No, he was craftier then that, he was super sly ( Gen 3:1). So he waited and he dropped little hints here and there. He built it up until one day he went for the throat and attacked her. Remember sin is like mold, you don’t notice it until it’s right in your face. Eve didn’t notice the devils work until after he was done. He dropped questions in her mind and lead her into confusion. He used something she already knew to be true and twisted it up to resemble the truth.

Don’t you want to be like God?

Satan

They were already like God. Man was created in Gods image. Man was the only creation that God formed by hand and gave the breath of life. We were the mirror image of God (Gen 5 :1-2). He gave us dominion on earth and all we would ever need. But the devil twisted the truth. Twisted what they already knew and made it sound new and enticing and Eve fell for it.

Naturally there were consequences for their actions. Yes, they were kicked out of the garden and things like old age and hard work became the usual. But God didn’t just leave them to their devices, when he was giving the snake its punishment a promise was spoken:

…And I will put enmity between you and the woman. And between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head , and you shall bruise his heel.

This verse  showed that we will constantly war with sin. The good thing about war is that  there is always an obvious winner and loser. And we know that God isn’t in the business of losing.

See how the Bible seemed to come to life? Remember these are true events depicting real life people. So try to imagine  these situations in real life, they will completely change your perspective.

365 New Days

226978-365-new-days-365-new-chances-2017

I was never one for new year resolutions. However this year I decided it was important to set goals and make flexible plans for the future. Goals are necessary in life, how else will we make improvements and grow? How else will be be tested if we have no goals to meet?

2017 seems like a very scary year to me. I know its going to be a year of tests and trails, a year with moments of failure.  A year with deep valleys and dry land. But I also declare that it will be a year of victory! A year of growth. A year filled with more joy and hope then ever before.

While I have many goals, this is a small list of the one’s that are constantly on my mind:

  1. Read through my whole bible
  2. Blog more! At least 2-3 times per month
  3. Be exactly who God has called and made me to be. 100% myself.
  4. Love more
  5. Let go of all fear and grab unto boldness
  6. To live life to the fullest. I don’t ever want to look back and regret my youth. I want to use this time to explore and have adventures to look back upon.
  7. To always operate in joy and peace
  8. Worship always , whether life is good or bad
  9. Get on that Deans list
  10. To clearly hear God’s voice
  11. Shine bright

This is the time to leave behind everything that is holding you back . It’s the time to let go of bad habits. You have exactly 365 NEW DAYS to live life  to the fullest. 365 NEW DAYS to show God’s love to everyone you meet. 365 NEW DAYS to be the person you’ve always imagined you could be.

Let this year be the year you choose to fully live for Christ. No more active participation in sin! Be the new creature he wants you to be. All you have to do is step into that grace and mercy. It’s already provided for you!!!

Let’s be honest with ourselves… the time is at hand where God will come back for his people! If right now you are unsure if you’re going to heaven or not , CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

365 NEW DAYS, 365 NEW CHANCES…. what will you do with them?

To bring true Joy to the world

To bring true Joy to the world

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulders:  and he shall be called Wonderful,  Counselor,  The mighty God,  The everlasting Father, The  Prince of Peace

Isn’t it crazy that God came down on this earth??!! He put on flesh ( 1 timothy 3:16, 1 john 1:14) just to die for us . He knew the very life we would live, the very sins we would commit,  How people would turn against him and yet, he still came down. God knew that most of us would curse his very name and detest the mention of his existence. But yet…He chose to love.

He loved us enough to come on earth and live like a human. To suffer the way we do, to experience pain and emotion the way we do, and he loved us enough to die for us in one of  the most excruciating ways possible.

God gave us the greatest gift of all, he gave us life away from sin (Psalm 86:13). He gave us a chance to have true joy and peace in our life.

So as we open presents and gather with family, let us remember Christ and what he has done for us. Let us remember that this holiday is in remembrance of our Savior. Let us remember The hope and peace our King brought through his birth.

6 Things I’ve learned in 2016

This year has had its many lows but there were so many victories and lessons learned. I am thankful that God has brought me through this year. So, I  have compacted my year into 6 important life lessons:

  1. Worship can get you out of anything!  Throughout this year, I’ve had times where a weird spirit of heaviness would come upon me. I would just feel heavy, like the weight of the world was on my shoulders.  I would try to watch something funny or do something I enjoyed but I found that none of those things worked. I literally didn’t know what to do until I  read   Isaiah 61:3 … the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness… I realized the only way out was to praise through it. So, that’s what I did and  Let me tell you honey, that spirit immediately fled.
  2. Prayer still Works! This statement doesn’t need much explaining. But I have seen with my own eyes how prayer has completely changed situations. Where God has made the impossible possible. Seek him in prayer and trust me your life will dramatically change. 1 Chronicles 16:11 Look to the lord and his strength; seek his face always.
  3. Pick good friends! This is something my parents have said ALL my life. I never really listened until now . Friends are a reflection of who you are because as people we naturally gravitate towards like-minded individuals. We seek common ground. In all my years this is the first time I have friends who actually are seeking to live a godly lifestyle ( mind you, I’ve always had good friends, some don’t actively belive in God). Friends who push me closer to Christ not only with their words but through their everyday life. Proverbs 12:26 The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray
  4. God can use you. This resonates so deeply in me. It’s something that I knew but never really believed . “Why would God use me? There’s so many better people….” But he will! Literally he will use you for his purpose but you have to be willing. You have to forget about yourself  and just let God move. It’s that simple don’t over think it.
  5.  develop your walk with God. My christian walk was practically non-existent in high school ,  yes I went to church  , yes I was baptized in Jesus name , yes I received the holy ghost but, what about my lifestyle? I learned that my walk had to be personal . I needed to pray , I needed to read my bible. I couldn’t depend on other people to tell me who Christ was. I had to seek him out for myself.  To know Christ those things are mandatory. Through the basics God has transformed me , I have still a long way to go but I am definitely not the same person.
  6. True Joy cannot be found in the world. True joy can only be found in Christ. You can’t truly be happy if God isn’t living in you. The world will throw everything at you, tell you that this material item will make you happy. But true joy in the midst of pain or whatever situation can only come from Christ. This summer, I ran into a friend from high school and she looked at me and said ” You look really happy, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you  like this”. Later I reflected on that and realize that I was. God brought true joy into my heart and it radiated out of me. I personally believe that Christians should be the happiest people on earth, because we know the one true living God. Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him…

Many things on this list we’ve heard before . But this year I got to live all these things out. Sometimes we forget important lessons that we have already learned so repetition is always good.  Keep learning, keep striving to be better, keep growing.

A couple of memories from this year…

–Watch me bloom

At first there was a seed…

And the seed was planted in fertile ground hoping to one day  bloom.

Slowly Blossoming is  the written form of my spiritual journey with God. It is the daily highs and lows of a sprouting seed and its journey to fruition. I am a seed and God is my pot, in him I am slowly finding my identity and  place in this world. I am blooming , progressing into the intricate flower I am meant to be.
